The Power of The Cross

Pastor Kevin is beginning a new preaching series this Sunday called "Boasting in the Cross."  During this series we will see from Scripture the scandal, power, purpose, glory, and hope of the cross of Jesus Christ.  The series will last all 5 Sundays of March.  Easter is March 23rd.

To facilitate our worship and appreciation of the cross, the BCC worship ministry will introduce a new song called "The Power of The Cross" by Keith Getty ("In Christ Alone") and Stuart Townend ("How Deep The Father's Love For Us").  You can see a live performance of the song in the YouTube clip below.  This is a wonderful song and I am excited to sing it with my Berean family as we exalt our crucified and risen Lord Jesus!

Oh, to see the dawn
Of the darkest day:
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men,
Torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood.

CHORUS:
This, the pow'r of the cross:
Christ became sin for us;
Took the blame, bore the wrath—
We stand forgiven at the cross.

Oh, to see the pain
Written on Your face,
Bearing the awesome weight of sin.
Ev'ry bitter thought,
Ev'ry evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow.

Now the daylight flees;
Now the ground beneath
Quakes as its Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two,
Dead are raised to life;
"Finished!" the vict'ry cry.

Oh, to see my name
Written in the wounds,
For through Your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death;
Life is mine to live,
Won through Your selfless love.

FINAL CHORUS:
This, the pow'r of the cross:
Son of God—slain for us.
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.

Interested in being a BCC blogger?

Calling all bloggers!

Do you have an itch to write?  Do you come away from your own daily devotions or corporate worship services with your heart overflowing in such a way that you need to put pen to paper (or fingers to keys) and write about it?  Do you have a way with words that others have found encouraging?  Why not become a BCC blogger?

This is an opportunity to paint a picture of what God is doing among His people in our local church.  There are many people who maintain personal blogs but this is an opportunity to blog as a representative of Berean Community Church.  You can post a thought you had during a time of personal devotion, summarize a small group discussion that was encouraging, share a personal testimony, etc, etc.  I also think that this would be a great place for short-terms missions teams to blog their trips rather than going and creating separate blogs on other sites.  So if you're going on a short-term missions trip and want to blog the trip, contact me!

Because I took it upon myself to create this blog, I have also set myself up as the administrator for the blog. Cool  So if you want to be a BCC blogger send me an email and let me know what you're thinking (jwittrup@bereancc.org) and I can explain the rules of the blog in more explicit details.

The First Place - Matthew Westerholm

A great song by Matthew Westerholm that I can cannot find on any CD but I did find this video.  They have done this song the last two years at the Bethlehem conference for pastors.  This is a great song using the theology of Colossians 1:15-18.

I'm not sure if the nature sounds are part of the song's recording or are just a part of the video that was used to create this.

Introducing the BCC Blog!

Greetings! My name is Jayson Wittrup and I serve as the worship director for Berean Community Church. If you’ve ever visited the church I was the tall guy with the guitar around his neck. Music is just one of my interests. I also have a passion for communicating and sharing ideas with others, especially spreading a passion for Jesus Christ and the Church. I also have a knack with computers so I took it upon myself to set up this blog.

The purpose of this blog is to be an outlet for people at Berean to share about the things Jesus Christ is doing in their lives through the ministry of BCC and in their own devotional lives. Right now there is only one blogger submitting to this blog…that’s me! Lord willing, more staff members, elders, and ministry leaders will post their ideas as well. Trust me, it could get boring only hearing from me! If anyone would like to be a contributor to this blog please email me (jwittrup@bereancc.org) and I will get you access and give you a quick run-down of how the blog is set up.

I am hoping that this blog will be devotional and edifying for any who stumble on it. This is not a rant blog for venting or a compilation blog that merely directs people to other content. The internet is not want for those kinds of blogs.
